Disaster Strikes TwiceFor Amityville native, Nancy Walters (61) and only daughter (35), life had finally returned to normal after Super Storm Sandy brought two feet of water into the family home. Storm recovery required, in addition to refinishing the floors, mold remediation, sheet rock and paint, the replacement of appliances, furniture and the car. The pair had finally settled back into the 100 year old brick cottage that had been the family home since the early forty’s. Nancy’s parents, a homemaker and assistant Vice President with Met life Insurance, had purchased the home just after their first child (an older brother) was born. Except for her years away for college, this has been Nancy’s, and her daughter’s, lifelong home which they shared with their three dogs. Nancy cared for her aging parents in this home until their deaths. Her father died in 1991, after living with Alzheimer’s and her mother, who was blind and confined to a wheel chair, in 2001.
Is to help Nancy and the community rebuild her home. We will accomplish this by the help of friends colleagues and neighbors. We are from New York and stronger than a Storm and a Fire.
